Double Dipping
This is just a quick snippet from me.
Tipa at West Karana and Massively are reporting about how SOE is introducing RMT to EQ2 . I have a problem with this. I understand a lot of Asian MMOs do the "no monthly fee but huge RMT store" approach, but western MMOs are big on the monthly subscriptions. Doing both seems like double dipping to me. Do either one or the other, not both.
It feels like going to a restaurant and paying $20 for a burger and fries and then having to pay an extra $10 for the salt and ketchup.

Yeah, this business model worries me. Over time, the definition of fluff has become increasingly broad. People were upset when EQ2 collector’s editions had exclusive items. However, they justified them because it was just fluff and a house pet that didn’t impact gameplay. Now we have mounts with faster movement rates than anything I can afford in game available if I just buy the game retail. The “slippery slope” argument may be a logical fallacy but the conclusion isn’t always wrong.

So far I like the way Blizzard is doing it in that it is all fluff. However their stuff is either TCG loot or collectors edition pets. Not sure what they would do if it was RMT. Who knows.
