I really don't understand what those so-called top guilds are complaining about. Players can always do something difficult as they want, if they think the game is too easy. Many of WoW players still remember those entertaining pre-AQ videos like solo DM, 2-man Strath/Scholo, 40 priests Ony, 2-button PvP, naked PvP... and a lot more. I never enjoy films from top guilds. They raid in safe party with safe strategies and safe gears. And they complain about WoW being too easy? Sounds pointless to me.

Interesting analysis, and in principle it's correct. But I would suggest that the graph does not really look like a bell curve. It most probably looks like a pareto curve.

My guild is currently working on Malygos and so far he's the only boss we are having trouble with. I have to agree that Naxx is easy.(by easy I mean easier for raiding guilds ... new guilds won't beat Naxx in a week but but it won't be that bad like BT/Sunwell).

Also don't forget that Nihilum/SK cleared naxx prebc. It's almost the same thing but ... easier. Most of us who has done this before on 40man raids and haven't played in Beta are shocked how easy the instance is now.

The hardcore raider in me is hopeful that they will release harder raids. But at the same time I also want the game to be easier. I wanna raid with my guild but at the same time I want to level toons with my wife.

While I understand Blizzard's intention in dumbing down and oversimplifying the game, and while it is good for the company revenue wise it's not good for gamers. If you can get every item/accomplishment so easy you might as well play on a free/private servers where you start with full high-end gear and can buy anything you want.

Many of the players who complain about instance-difficulty spend more time ingame then the hardcore-raiders, doing AV with their fourth alt. And the ones who don't spend that much time playing the game should realise that somebody spending 2 or 3 times as much time on the game should get something more out of it. Why can't you be happy with having a tier lower gear then the hardcore guilds, they even nerf the hell out of every encounter multiple times just so you can finish the instance with 1/4th of the time and/or skille invested.

"One consequence of making most content more accessible could be the retention of players. WoW’s subscription model depends on retaining players; if the bulk of the players can “complete” the game relatively easier, the pressure will be on Blizzard to publish content at a quicker rate."

Well put.

I just found this post through Blessing of Kings and it sums up much of what I'm feeling. I do like WoW, but it's nice to be able to play alts and other games as well. My guild throughout most of the Burning Crusade primarily ran 10-mans and we loved ZA, but we never got to progress any farther in the end game for lack of numbers.

This time around I can feel almost certain that I will see the final raid of the exapanion. Even if we can't get 25 people, we should be able to do 10.

I have to say, you sum up my thoughts and give some great examples with graphical interpretation on raiding in Wrath.

I've linked this post to my own blog. If there are any issues, I can remove the link.
